In 2005, we had a total of 7893 public applications for the brand symbol of Tokyo Midtown from 45 countries. The applicants were aged between nine and 80. Judges chaired by Mr. Masuteru Aoba,
In 2005, we hVice President of the Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA), chose the work of graphic designer Mr. Atsushi Harano. The chosen symbol is an impressive variation of the alphabetic letter M, the initial of Midtown.

The "M” motif symbolizes the entrance to a new universe and a town with a bright future and endless possibilities. It has a spacious and three-dimensional feel, and the inward-oriented shape causes one to think of the depth of the town facilities and the endless possibilities therein. The space in the center occupied by the letter “M” symbolizes the towns place at the center of Tokyo. Moreover, the simple, universal shape is an international standard and has great potential for various design implementations as a new expression of Japanese tradition.
