This space will be for everyone, from adults to children and play with different aspects of design. In the middle of the space there will be a big wooden jungle gym built like a mountain. People can climb up this apparatus, read a book in the shadow of a gym or just enjoy a conversation at noon. This will be a little "oasis" in the city where people can relax and spend their time as they please. It will be change into art objet with the light at night.

On the theme of "Playing with Designs", there will be a wide range of creative workshops such as for making accessories and small interior items. Popular designers will be the instructors of these workshops that are aimed to stimulate the imagination. Targeted for both children and adults, the workshops allow for casual participation as they require no prior registration.

A wide range of guests will appear on a talk show to be held on the stage in the lawn. Creators and designers who have been involved in the DESGIN TOUCH event will reveal their secrets behind producing their creations. Many interesting talks are scheduled, including a "real" version of the online Roppongi Mirai Kaigi talks. This will be a valuable event to hear inside stories from top creators and to learn about their work and perspectives. No registration is necessary. Admission is free, so drop by when you can.

A bookstore on wheels will come to the Grass Square laden with unusual independent magazines, visual books and picture books. Whether or not one is a lover of designs and books, the rich collection is likely to please every visitor.

Shop Events

Throughout the duration of DESIGN TOUCH, various events will be also held at the shops. Visitors will be shown new ideas to incorporate designs into their lives and to make the everyday more colorful and lively.

Design Shopper Collection

Collaborating with 18 interior design shops at Tokyo Midtown, nine well-known designers from diverse backgrounds have designed original shopping bags for each shop. Do your shopping and get shopping bags that are unavailable elsewhere, conceived by designers who have freed their imagination!

An exhibition of items which have won numerous design awards worldwide. The items are available for purchase in the shops at Tokyo Midtown. Also on display will be design goods recommended by the various shops.

Tokyo Midtown Award 2012

The "Tokyo Midtown Award", marking its fifth year this year, will continue to discover and support new talent of design and art. An announcement will be made of the 14 award-winning works selected from a total of 1,318 entries in the design and the art competitions. The works will be exhibited and award ceremony will be held.

Touch the GOOD DESIGN

Unique bicycles which have won Good Design Award both in Japan and abroad will be shown. There will be attractive designed bicycles for children, bicycles which can be enjoyed by both adults and children, and bicycles for adults who value personal tastes. On the weekends, visitors are invited to ride the bicycles.

A collaboration event between local traditional industries and leading Japanese designers. Designers have given new expressions to the high-grade "inada mikageishi" granite, the "yasato kawara" ceramic roofing tiles, and this year, to the "kasama yaki" pottery in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture.
