Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH is a design event that was first held last year. The theme for the second event this year will be "Enjoying Japanese Design," emphasizing Japanese design, which is earning increasing renown worldwide. The event will include exhibitions of works from leading designers, auctions of rare designs, and seminars. Design events will also be held for interior design and design shops.

* The INADA Stone Exhibition and the Tokyo Midtown Award 2008 Prize Winner Exhibition will be held starting Thursday, October 23rd.
■DESIGN TOUCH Auction
This is the only place where you can check out high quality designs.The Japanese Design Movement, started by people like Sori Yanagi, was in full swing in the 50's and 60's. IT took advantage of a wave of industrialization and became even bigger in the 70's. In the 80's, works of the post modernists including Shiro Kuramata, began to enjoy a high reputation globally and contributed to the establishment of the Japanese Modern Design trend. A special auction is being held at DESIGN TOUCH to introduce the world to the high quality designs that emerged from this rich history. Approximately 200 pieces of top-of-the-line Japan Design will be up for bidding in this full auction style sale.

■Challenge Auction
An auction in which beginners can feel comfortable to participate. The DESIGN TOUCH Auction is a full auction-style sale with bidding that leads to both tension in the room and high prices. The “Challenge Auction” is a casual auction meant for those who might feel intimidated by the DT auction but are still interested in participating.

■MONODUKURI Live
Japanese traditional crafts, once on the wane, are coming under the spotlight and making a comeback thanks to some artisans incorporating traditional designs into their work. MONODUKURI Live focuses on the young ones who are in their 20's and 30's, as they demonstrate their craftsmanship.

■Tokyo Midtown Award 2008
"Tokyo Midtown Award" was launched for commemorating 1st anniversary of Tokyo Midtown. This year, "Art Competition" and "Design Competition" are being held aiming at finding and supporting artists and designers of the next generation. The award ceremony for both competitions will be hosted during DESIGN TOUCH. The award-winning pieces will be exhibited at "Metro Avenue" on BF1 of Plaza during this event. "Audience Award" will be decided by the visitors too.

DESIGN TOUCH is based on the theme "to enjoy the designs, using all five of your senses". DESIGN TOUCH Performance is an event where you can enjoy the designs using your sense of vision and sense of hearing. Many leading Japanese music creators including DJ TOWA TEI will participate in the event.

■Colors of Japan - Autumn
Hiroki Maeno went independent in 2006 afterstudying at and working for Sogetsu Ikebana(flower arrangement) School. Since then, hehas been hosting "Kasho Maeno" to teachflower arrangement as Sogetsu-style instructorand doing flower decoration for TV show setsand hotels. Maeno will show his work featuringthe theme of "Colors of Japan - Autumn" invarious areas of Tokyo Midtown.
