A theatre-like installation consisting of numerous flowing white curtains will be set up in the Grass Square. When a participant wears a headset that responds to brainwaves, the curtains can be closed or opened by them. Come and get a glimpse of architecture of the future that can be controlled responsively by human.

“+(Plus) Style” is an innovative shopping and crowdfunding site where consumers express their views in the development of new products. This exhibition will show products sold on the site including items made in collaboration with design studio Nendo.

“Salone in Roppongi” was started to showcase works by internationally recognized Japanese designers. This year, the theme is to express science through design. Architect Jo Nagasaka has made works that depict the complex world of particle physics in a unique and easy-to-understand way.

Akihiro Nozaki, a botanical work creator who has entered many international competitions, will teach participants how to make a “Design Garden” using flowers and plants. The completed work will be exhibited in Midtown Garden during the DESIGN TOUCH event.

Works made from Yasato Kawara ceramic titles whose origins go back to the Nara period will be displayed together with Kasama-yaki style pottery. The traditional works have been given a modern touch by today’s leading Japanese designers.

Tokyo Midtown Award is a competition for discovering and supporting young artists and designers. In the design competition, winners are helped in making commercial products from their works. Many hit products have been launched from this annual competition.

An exhibition of carefully curated products that show how good designs can bring convenience and pleasure to our everyday lives. Workshops will also be held where participants can actually touch the products.

Works ranging from products to business models that won the Good Design Award in 2016 will be exhibited. Events will be held daily, including a presentation to the general public by 100 designers as well as a talk show by creators.

Out of the design that won the Good Design Award, 76 judges have each picked their favorite piece of design. The judge consists of people of many different professions such as designers, architects, academics, journalists, and company owners, and this exhibition shows how varied individual values and tastes can be.

By closely examining familiar objects, we can begin to see the hidden role of design. Directed by Taku Satoh, this exhibition invites visitors to study the “anatomy” of five products made by food manufacturer Meiji.

Led by Tawaraya Sōtatsu, Ogata Kōrin and others, the Rimpa School of painting flourished in Kyoto. Around 100 years after Rimpa was founded, it blossomed once again on the stage of Edo. Suzuki Kiitsu played an active role at the forefront of Edo Rimpa. Inheriting the splendid traditions of Rimpa, his style of painting has vividly contrasting colors and rich designs. Kiitsu’s masterpieces from across Japan and overseas have recently attracted much attention and are brought together at this long-awaited exhibition.
