Led by Tawaraya Sōtatsu, Ogata Kōrin and others, the Rimpa School of painting flourished in Kyoto. Around 100 years after Rimpa was founded, it blossomed once again on the stage of Edo. Suzuki Kiitsu played an active role at the forefront of Edo Rimpa. Inheriting the splendid traditions of Rimpa, his style of painting has vividly contrasting colors and rich designs. Kiitsu’s masterpieces from across Japan and overseas have recently attracted much attention and are brought together at this long-awaited exhibition.
