What is Tokyo Midtown
DESIGN TOUCH?
A design based event that has been held since 2007 under the concept of "enjoying design through all five senses." This veritable festival of design brings together designers active both in Japan and overseas, accompanied by some stunning examples of design, imparting in an intimate and dynamically physical way the appeal and possibilities of design.
2023 THEME
Draw the Future
New value and structures are being devised with the aim of helping to achieve a sustainable society. In a complexifying world, it may be the case that building a new relationship with nature that closely follows the spirit of humanity is something we should place importance on. At DESIGN TOUCH, you can experience the sustainable future that design shows us.

1Archipelago
10/6 Fri – 10/29 Sun
11:00 – 21:00Cancelled in the event of bad weather
Grass Square
Soil islands will appear on the grounds of Grass Square this year. Each island is made from soil disposed of as waste, mixed with a natural hardening agent to generate structural stability, and formed into unique shapes using 3D printers and other building technologies. Touch and feel this uniquely formed soil archipelago, even sit or lean on them, just like how we used to build castles and mountains in sandboxes. Let's all imagine the many years the soil has endured and the world that lies beneath our feet.

11:00 – 17:30Cancelled in the event of bad weather
Midtown Garden
The Midtown Garden brings the story of the wind through the setting of a small garden consisting of numerous products placed on the grounds. When you feel a light autumn breeze, the pieces placed among the trees will sway in the wind, forming shapes resembling bunches of small flowers. This installation allows you to observe the passing wind, to feel its pleasantness, which is often forgotten in the comfort of urban environments, and to disconnect from the feeling of rush in a busy time.

3Reflections on Water
10/6 Fri – 10/29 Sun
11:00 – 17:30Cancelled in the event of bad weather
Midtown Garden
Water disappears from the stream flowing through Midtown Garden, yet the murmur of the stream remains together with voices of people talking about water – water to drink, to clean, to grow our food, and to produce our household goods. With its unexpected absence, we are invited to think about water and the way it permeates through our daily lives. What comes to mind? By sharing our thoughts and questions, the connections we make between people and water start to ripple out, reshaping our future.
