France is a country surrounded by seas but also has a wide diversity of islands. I wanted to take all of that heritage and create a design that would elevate this background. Learning from the past for a better future

    Ricardo Cespedes B. / Communicator

    More

    【Concept】
The aim of this design is to show the importance of nature to children. The drawings reflect the importance of co-existing with nature where elements (wind, earth, water, life) bond to create balance in the world. The interaction between children and nature passed on from generation to generation. All the iconography is inspired in the Ancient Andean Culture (Inca and Tiwanaku) both cultures that peacefully co-existed with nature. The colors represent the Japanese flag and the tones of the ceramics that these Ancient Andean Cultures used, they also symbolize the cultural union between Bolivia and Japan.

    【Profile】

Country name: Plurinational State of Bolivia
    Official language: Spanish
Bolivia is a country located in the heart of South America. Geographically constituted by an amazing variety of landscapes and climates, from majestic peaks, high-altitude deserts, exuberant jungles, and savannahs of impressive extension. The cultural and ethnic diversity of the country is a feature that makes it fascinating to explore. In its cultural expressions, one can distinguish ancestral traditions that remain intact in the indigenous communities and others with syncretism that is manifested in the rest of society as part of its rich identity. A country of magical experiences that challenges the senses, emotions, and passion to discover the new.

I struggle to heal or cope with the trauma and the in-between world I live in as both a Korean and American but not fully one or the other. I’m interested in the concept of Neo-Confucianism which is the harmony between chaos and order, our connection to the universe and how pattern is the basic structure in everything. Coupled with folk myths, I reinterpret the Taoist theme of 10 symbols of long life from Korean classical paintings, questioning what longevity means in today’s existential angst-filled world. Paintings from the renaissance period, particularly those of Adam and Eve, influence my work as well; repainting them in a way that reflects modern interracial relationships, sexual orientations and uplifts all genders and race.
