DESIGNART TOKYO brings together leading talent from around the world in a range of fields that include interior design, art, fashion, technology, and food in Tokyo, a globally prominent city in terms of cultural mixing, and holds exhibitions around the city. Tokyo Midtown will host works from three groups of creators that tackle this year's theme.

The Echizen region in central western Japan, is known as an important center for crafts such as washi paper, cutlery, chests, lacquerware, and pottery. Here, the members have proposed it as a "neighborhood": each creator will propose work from within the hood, using traditional Echizen crafts, in a dialogue with artisans and the material and cultural contexts, bringing depth and lightness, in contrast to the gravity of traditional crafts.

SEN is composed of five same-generation creators from Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture. In this presentation four SEN members—Kiichi Ueda, Hiroaki Onishi, Rikuo Takata, and Ryoya Fukaji—will participate, each from different fields, engaging with different local materials and culture, and bringing their own hands-on approach to reinvest these local cultures with new value and new meanings.

As a child, Tomiyama reach picture books telling of the kenmun, a supernatural creature from traditional island folklore. Traditionally a mischievous being, Tomiyama saw the kenmun as an invisible friend who encourages him as he channels his hometown and personal roots into contemporary fashions.

Kiyoshi Tomiyama

Born in Amami Ōshima, a humid subtropical island between Kyushu and Okinawa, Tomiyama views tradition and craftsmanship as a wellspring for future innovation, elevating rare textiles such as Minaori, he aims to more than preserve, protect, but rather elevate them as wearable art. Rooted in his own heritage, Tomiyama creates works which branch out to create new value through a contemporary lens.

For TOKYO MIDTOWN DESIGN LIVE 2025, Forman+Ryoga Oasada propose an up-cycling project which combines three discarded pieces of furniture to create 18 new object "homes". They re-purposing furniture in an experiment to increase the points of interaction—touching, seeing, moving—to see if they can create pieces which are more like lifestyle companions. They believe that the longer you use furniture, the more attachment and affection it should inspire.

"Masato Senzaki, born in 1999 in Ibaraki Prefecture, graduated from Chuo Technical College, Tokyo. After working at ADX and Nakagawa Erika Architects, in 2025 launched design studio Forman to explore furniture, fashion, and architecture design.
Ryoga Osada, born in 1999 in Yamanashi Prefecture, also graduated from Chuo Technical College, Tokyo. Osada studied spatial design at Puddle, and currently works in furniture and audio equipment production."
