"Tokyo Midtown Award" Supporting Growing TalentTokyo Midtown, attracting talent from the world overSince opening in March 2007 with the theme "JAPAN VALUE"（a novelcollection of values, senses and capabilities of Japan）, Tokyo Midtownhas been playing a part in urban development with the aim of being astage to promote Japan's value and sensitivity in the 21st century. Buildingsand artworks by leading architects, artists and designers, who areactive on both the local and international scenes, lend flair to this lush,green 10 hectare site. By hosting institutions such as the SuntoryMuseum of Art, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, and Tokyo Midtown Design Hub,Tokyo Midtown is continuously expanding its art and design activities ona daily basis. With other art institutions such as The National Art Center,Tokyo, Mori Art Museum, and Nezu Museum in the surrounding area,along with embassies representing over 40 countries, we shoulder theburden of Tokyo's art and design movement as the intersection of internationaltalent, a place where people can meet regardless of nationality,and provide stimulus to create "something new".Discovering and supporting tomorrow's talent, "Tokyo Midtown Award"To commemorate its first anniversary in 2008, this site hosts a competitionwith 2 categories, art and design, the "Tokyo Midtown Award". UsingTokyo Midtown's development concept, "JAPAN VALUE" as its coretheme, we host a competition with leading artists, curators, and designersas judges. The aim of this award is to discover and promote artistsand designers who carry the hopes of tomorrow. We provide winners ofthe art competition with a production grant and exhibition space, thechance of a lifetime to actually display their works. In the design competion,we invite contestants to freely express themselves in an unrestrictedmanner, with the opportunity to work with Tokyo Midtown, afterreceiving the award, to find ways to merchandize their proposed designs.We want to provide a stage for the talent carrying the hopes of the artand design scene of the future, to spread their wings in a city currentlyoverflowing with art and design. At Tokyo Midtown, through the "TokyoMidtown Award", we support the talent of tomorrow.2
