“Tokyo Midtown Award”? nurturing talent that will flourish tomorrowThe“Tokyo Midtown Award”is aimed to support talent of the futureThe“Tokyo Midtown Award”is an art and design competition we have been holding everyyear since 2008. The base theme of this award is“JAPAN VALUE”which is the coreconcept of Tokyo Midtown. The judges are artists, curators and designers working at theforefront of their various fields. The doors of the award are open wide, with applicationsfrom students and the general public being welcome.The aim of the award is to discover and support artists and designers of the future. In theart competition, award winners are given production subsidies and space within TokyoMidtown to show their work. In the design competition, we look for designs born from anunfettered imagination, and Tokyo Midtown fully supports award winners in makingcommercial products of their creations. As a result of the past two awards, a total of fiveworks have been developed into products and are now sold in stores across Japan,attracting much attention.Tokyo Midtown draws the latest in art and designTokyo Midtown where the“Tokyo Midtown Award”is held, is a town filled with art anddesign. Its streets are lined with trees, architecture and artworks that stimulate theimagination. Gathered here are the Suntory Museum of Art, 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT, andTokyo Midtown Design Hub. Dotted in the vicinity are other art facilities such as the NationalArt Center, Tokyo, the Mori Art Museum and the Nezu Museum, as well as more than 40foreign embassies.In such a venue that is made vibrant by the architecture and artwork of leading architects,artists and designers, we have been holding various events that have become an indispensablepart of the Tokyo art and design scene. In the spring, Tokyo Midtown becomes one of the mainvenues for“Roppongi Art Night”? an evening event that livens up the town of Roppongi withparticipation-oriented art, music, visual arts and exhibitions. In the autumn, in parallel with theannouncement of the winners of“Tokyo Midtown Award”,“Tokyo Midtown DESIGN TOUCH”isheld and many design exhibitions, events, lectures and workshops are held all over the town.This time of the year, the town becomes a place for people to meet as-yet-unknown designs.
