We called for works incorporatingJapanese skills and materials-works that breathe new lifeinto Japan?s long tradition of making things.★The Grand Prize winner is invited to the Asia?s biggestdesign event“Business of Design Week”in Hong Kong.[Note] Awardees? profiles are those that were submitted atthe time of application.小山薫堂Kundo Koyama放送作家/脚本家/ N35inc・（株）オレンジ・アンド・パートナーズ代表/東北芸術工科大学デザイン工学部企画構想学科長代表作：「カノッサの屈辱」「料理の鉄人」「ニューデザインパラダイス」（以上、TV番組）、「おくりびと」（映画脚本）、「小山薫堂幸せの仕事術」（書籍）今回のテーマは、本アワード史上最も考えやすいテーマだったのではないかと思う。なぜならば、発想とは既知と既知の掛け合わせから生まれることが多いからだ。全く新しいものを創作するのではなく、すでにあるものに違う要素を加えて新しいものを生み出す…これは日本人が最も得意とする創作スタイルではないだろうか。ただ、「和える」の解釈が広過ぎる故に、和えることの必然性に乏しいものが多く見られた。Broadcast Writer / ScriptwriterI think it was the easiest theme since this award has set so far. Ideas oftencome from a blending of things. Adding a different factor to make newthings is a method that Japanese excel at. We do this better than makingsomething from scratch. However, contestants tended to make too broadinterpretation, and many mixed elements that did not need to be mixed.12
