BONE VOYAGE

BONE VOYAGE

This work is an arm-like appendage device that delivers sound directly to the viewer’s skull via a bone-conduction speaker at its tip. It moves like a vine or a digit, and makes contact with the head and then transmits vibrations to the skull, creating the sensation of hearing the sounds of the city through the cranium itself, as if your brain was surrounded by an ear. The way the sound is perceived changes depending on where, when, and how firmly the device makes contact, creating a listening experience that feels almost like having the memories of a stranger infused into you.

Fushi Sano + Mio Haruhana

Fushi Sano + Mio Haruhana

A creative unit formed by Fushi Sano, who creates music and sound with essential elements of the experience of “hearing”, and Mio Haruhana, who creates dynamic forms grounded in the structural and mechanical necessities of their construction. By combining diverse acoustic devices with organic designs and movements, the duo creates works that explore unprecedented and unfamiliar acoustic experiences.

Tempura Object

Tempura Objectの作品写真

Tempura Object treats the act of “deep frying” as a formative process akin to craft. Non-food materials such as paper and textiles are hardened by batter and oil, shapes forming somewhere between chance and control. The process is akin to pottery or casting, while remaining, at the same time, an act of cooking. Through forms that emerge from the interaction between materials and physical phenomena, the work explores new possibilities for craft.

Nabenashi Cecil

Currently pursuing a graduate degree in the Design program at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. They describe their practice as Cooking Design, reconfiguring the relationship between materials and physical phenomena. By moving across established definitions of craft and design, they explores new ways of thinking about the relationships between humans, nature, and matter.
