Drops of light falling from icicle-like crystals strike the keys of a piano, with each resultant sound marking time as we enjoy the present moment and anticipate the coming spring. Countless drops resembling snow floating lightly in the air create an emotional depiction of a range of winter landscapes, like deep and silent snowfall, and sometimes a freezing snowstorm.

Art

Mindful Heart

Mindful Heart
Kan Yasuda

A sculpture made of 18.5 tons of marble billions of years old in Pietrasanta, Italy. When you sink into the hole carved into the stone, you will feel as if you are part of the earth, and you can hear the silent voices of ancient times emanating from the stone. Inside the hole carved into the stone, the artist would like you to feel a sense of relief as if you were settling into the earth.

WOW Inc.

WOW

Stimulating and inspiring people's minds--In our attempt to embody this mission, WOW engages in two approaches.
First, as a creative collective, creators brimming with individuality each explore unique themes and methods of expression, and create works based on these explorations.
Second, as a visual design studio, we combine intellect and sensitivity through dialogues with the client, and weave rich and varied expressions, through videos, installations and UI/UX, which the rational pursuit of efficiency could never hope to achieve.

CHRISTMAS TREE

Sustainable Christmas tree

Sustainable Christmas tree

This year will see a new initiative on the first floor of the Plaza in the form of a sustainable Christmas tree that makes use of discarded branches clipped from other trees. This installation greets visitors with warm light dripping from the multitude of overlapping branches. The tree is made from the branches of trees in the Midtown Garden, including Japanese zelkova, cherrry blossom, and ginko, that were clipped to help the trees grow. In addition to reusing branches, this tree also helps to reduce CO2 emissions produced when transporting trees. Recyclable stainless steel material was also used to make the frame, and the overall result is a Christmas tree that bestows upon the viewer the warmth of trees.

Nurturing trees at Tokyo Midtown

The Midtown Garden is home to a total of 400 trees that include around 140 inherited from the former Defense Agency that was located on the site, and these trees have been carefully looked after since the opening of Tokyo Midtown. Regularly pruning the trees means not only are any overgrown leaves and branches tidied up, but also that air and light are equally distributed to all foliage, and allows the health of trees and plants to be preserved along with the beauty of the trees.
